Or listen on:
“I think the other thing that doesn’t get talked about enough, is that the market you choose… actually matters a lot.”
BOOM.
I had never really thought so much about “the market”. I was always of the opinion that if you had the best product and marketing, you would ultimately win.
And at the same time that Justin Jackson, cofounder of Transistor said this to me in a podcast interview for this show… my cofounder and I were analysing options for potentially starting a SaaS business.
We both have extensive experience in the B2B marketing space, Neil Morgan, an online marketing OG, built one of the first, and most popular non-SaaS email autoresponders.
And I… well, I guess I just write SaaS case studies.
Anyway, we had a few options drawn up for products we could build… and one of those was a podcast host JUST focussed on businesses looking to grow their brand with a podcast.
And then Justin comes on this podcast…
He shares about how Transistor (a podcast host), have bootstrapped from zero to over $50k per month in MRR over the past eighteen months… and that his BIGGEST learning has been:
Choosing the right market.
So we did it.
And months later we have bCast.
Did we copy?
I don’t think so…
Was it a co-incidence?
Maybe.
But regardless, out of respect for Justin, Transistor and the awesome brand they are building: I wanted to include this interview in the first episode of this podcast.
We cover:
- How Justin started out in podcasting
- How Transistor have grown
- Why Justin’s own podcast (Build Your SaaS) is so powerful
And to take us full circle… we also jump into a discussion with bCast cofounder Neil Morgan that covers:
- How we met
- Why we decided to become business partners
- Why Neil is doing this
Thank to both these guests and thanks to YOU for listening, feel free to leave any thoughts or questions in the comments below…
